Marble statues, staircase banisters, stained-glass windows, bookcases and enormous chandeliers are all present. Using dark shadows, musty smells, lightning strikes and thunder claps, Nola sets the mood like no other. Bouncing between the 1920’s and the present, grief and death take precedence within the pages of this pain filled supernatural novella. Nola nails every poetic page with horrific misery, mourning and madness. Every once in a blue moon a book crosses your path that unexpectedly blows you away. That unsettling Lovecraftian type narrative that emphasis the supernatural is slowly revealed, brought to you under the penmanship of Candace Nola. Literally, from the cradle to the grave, I was totally lost in this lingering presence of purgatory, pain and despair. Be wary, there are more shadows than meets the eye.
